Community garden has plots for lease

By Messenger Staff | Published Wednesday, February 20, 2013

”God’s Little Acre,” a community garden sponsored by Morris Memorial United Methodist Church of Chico, is now open to the public for 2013. The garden, located next to the church at 302 S. Weatherford St., has plots consisting of three beds leasing for $25, plus one-half of the vegetables harvested.

The vegetables that are given back will be distributed to needy widows and other individuals. Spring planting is getting started, and there are limited plots available. The garden committee is ready to provide guidance on how to garden if necessary. If anyone is interested in reducing the grocery bill, eating locally produced and grown vegetables, learning how to garden or just providing a community service, call 940-644-6671 or 940-644-5186 to lease a garden plot.

Donations have been made for anyone unable to pay for their plots. The church encourages anyone, regardless of age, to participate.
