The accident happened around 11 near the intersection of 14th Street and Cates Street. Bridgeport Police Chief Randy Singleton said Lupe Salazar sustained a serious injury to his lower leg while trying to load a compactor onto a trailer following a patch job on the street.

The road sloped slightly, and the compactor fell while Salazar was operating it, pinning his leg briefly against a curb.

Salazar was taken to Wise Regional in Bridgeport by ground ambulance and then flown to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth. His condition was unavailable Tuesday afternoon.
