The Chico city council will hold a public hearing on the proposed 2013-14 budget and tax rate at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, in the council chamber at City Hall.
Mayor J.D. Clark said the tax rate proposed is 48 cents, the same as last year, in spite of a 6.7 percent drop in overall property values. The proposed budget represents a 5 percent reduction from last year.
The public hearing will be followed by the regular meeting. In addition to adopting the budget and tax rate, the agenda also includes possible action on medical insurance, amending the 2012-2013 fiscal year budget, purchase of a commercial vacuum cleaner and setting a public hearing for Municipal Complex parking and drainage improvements.
