The City of Decatur has hired a new director for its public library. Patricia Peters starts Monday, replacing Cecilia Barham, who resigned in October.

Peters comes to Decatur from the Lewisville Public Library and has more than 20 years of experience in library services.

“We’re real excited to have her and think she’ll be a great fit for the community,” said City Manager Brett Shannon.

Peters received her masters of library science from the University of North Texas and also has a master of arts in English literature. Shannon said the combination of her answers in the interview, her demeanor, philosophy and attitude set her apart from the other candidates.

She was the unanimous choice of the hiring committee, which included former librarian Barham.

“(Patricia) seems excited, and I feel confident she’ll pick up the ball and help keep things moving forward,” Shannon said.
