Butterfield Stage Days next weekend

Like the stagecoach the event is named after, the Butterfield Stage Days will roll into Bridgeport next weekend.

Events begin with the Karl Klement PRCA Ram Rodeo 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Bridgeport Riding Club Arena, 691 FM 920. Tickets are $10 if purchased before Friday at the Bridgeport Chamber office, or $12 nightly at the gate. Children 5 and under get in free.

Friday is Rodeo Pink. The event will honor breast cancer survivors in the community by giving them a complimentary rodeo ticket and recognizing them during the rodeo’s grand entry.

The community is encouraged to wear pink that day in support of breast cancer awareness.

Rodeo Pink activities continue with a 5K run/walk 9 a.m. Saturday. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Harwood Park pavilion. Cost is $25.

A Stick Horse Rodeo for youngsters age 6 and under is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the park pavilion. Sign-ups start at 10:15 a.m. Events include best costume, bronc bustin’ and barrel racin’. For more information, call 940-683-3404 or email afogelman@cityofbridgeport.net.

The Butterfield Stage Days Festival is 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Harwood Park. Children’s activities include stagecoach rides, a petting zoo, kiddie train, face painting, bounce houses and carnival. There will also be craft booths, an artisan market, gunfighters, Bingo and live entertainment.

In addition to the traditional Bridgeport Idol contest, this year’s festival includes two new competitions.

The Battle of the Boot pancake-eating contest is in the morning. Setup for the Smokin’ Good Time rib cook-off is 7 to 9 a.m., with judging beginning at 2 p.m. Entry fee is $50 per team, and the St. Louis cut ribs must be prepared and smoked at the festival. Cooking station setup is 7 to 9 a.m., and judging begins at 2 p.m.

Judges’ Pick and People’s Choice winners will be named by 4 p.m. Judges’ Pick first place wins $300 cash and a $200 gift card to Mas Meat; second place receives $200 cash and a $100 Mas Meat gift card; and third place gets $100 cash and a $50 gift certificate to Mas.

People’s Choice voting benefits the Stagecoach. Its winner also receives a prize. A $10 wristband provides a brisket sandwich dinner and rib taste test.
