By Erika Pedroza | Published Saturday, February 9, 2013

The Northwest ISD Board will continue steps in preparation for the opening of elementary school No. 17 at its regular meeting 7 p.m. Monday at the Administration Building.

In addition to discussing possible attendance boundaries, trustees will also name the school’s principal. As a separate agenda item, they will also look at adding 14 staffing positions for the new school.

The staffing plan, outlined by Assistant Superintendent for Administrative Services Gary Gindt, also includes 52 regular education teachers, three elementary school assistant principals, three counselors, two assistant choir teachers, three elementary specials (music, art, physical education) teachers and 16 special education positions.

As part of a budget review, Chief Financial Officer Jon Graswich will discuss with the board lawsuits, surpluses, vouchers and other mysteries in the Texas school finance system. As another action item, Graswich will talk about refunding bond notes to lower the interest cost to the district and taxpayers.

The board will also discuss bids for a roofing repair project at Seven Hills Elementary and direct digital control and energy management systems at Northwest High.
