Board to hear principal’s complaint

By Messenger Staff | Published Saturday, April 6, 2013

A principal’s complaint against the superintendent is the subject of a special Chico School Board meeting Tuesday.

The meeting agenda includes only one item – personnel discussion – a complaint by Chico Middle School Principal Maury Martin against Superintendent Mike Jones. The discussion is being held in closed session.

At the Feb. 21 school board meeting Jones recommended extending the contracts of all administrators with the exception of Martin. The board split 3-3 in approving the administrator contracts, so a special meeting was held the following week to reconsider the proposal.

At that meeting, Jones said he “had no recommendation to bring to the board” regarding Martin’s contract, so no action was taken on it.

Martin’s current two-year contract expires at the end of the 2013-2014 school year.

Because it is a personnel matter, Jones said he could not discuss the complaint.

  1. Praise God!!! It is about time, Mr. Jones has to answer for his personal dislike of Mr. Martin. It should be based on merit and not on Mr. Jones’ personal feelings.
