The process of putting together next year’s budget is well underway, and Decatur school board members Thursday received a preliminary look at the 2013-2014 financial plan.

Deputy Superintendent for Finance Gary Micinski gave an overview of the budget and described the timeline for budget adoption. The district should receive certified tax values next week to help them come up with a final budget.

“All indications are the tax rate will be the same as last year,” Micinski said.

He said the preliminary budget does include a pay increase for teachers and teacher aides.

The board will meet a couple of times in August to continue finalizing the budget prior to adoption.

In other business, the board recognized Zaira Palomo from central administration as the July DISD support staff employee of the month.

Trustees also approved the following list of new hires: Alfredo Amador, Jacob Belding, Elle Stubbs, Carolee McCutcheon (nurse), Cindy Calvo, Holly East, Lindsey Green, Tracey Goodwin, Allison Lerner, Clarissa Padron, Lauri Henderson, Caley Owens, Lauren Cary and Rachel Rangel.
