ALVORD

SURVIVOR RECOGNITION – Alvord ISD will recognize breast cancer survivors at the varsity home football game Friday, Oct. 25. BRIDGEPORT

BASKETBALL SIGN-UPS – The deadline to sign up for Bridgeport Youth Basketball is Wednesday, Oct. 23. Registration forms can be downloaded at www.BridgeportYouthAssoc.com or accessed through the “BYA Basketball” page on Facebook.

FALL FESTIVAL – Bridgeport Parks and Recreation will host Spooktacular 2013 Fall Festival 5:30 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at Bridgeport Community Center. The free event includes candy, games, rock wall, inflatable, euro bungee, popcorn, cotton candy, balloon animals and face painting. There will be magic shows at 5:45 p.m., 6:45 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. and a costume contest at 6:15 p.m.

CLASS REUNION – The Bridgeport High School Class of 1978 is having its 35th reunion 3 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at the home of Lizann Stockdale Bridges. COSTUME PARADE – Bridgeport Main Street’s Suit Up and Say Boo Halloween parade is 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31. It will begin at the Bridgeport Stage and proceed down Halsell Street. For more information, call 940-683-3404.

RED KETTLE CAMPAIGN – The Bridgeport Salvation Army Unit is looking for bell-ringers for the Christmas 2013 Red Kettle campaign. One-hour slots are available 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Dec. 2, 6, 12, 18 and 21 at Walmart; and 3 to 7 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays from Nov. 30 to Dec. 22, at Brookshire’s and Market Place. DECATUR

FLU SHOTS – Certified CVS pharmacists are holding a flu shot clinic at Decatur City Hall 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24. Walk-ins are welcome. For billing purposes, bring Medicare A, B and D cards, along with other insurance cards for flu vaccines. Cash cost for the shot is $31.99.

FALL FESTIVAL – Governor’s Ridge in Decatur will host a fall festival 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31. There will be free hot dogs and chips, bounce house, games, trick-or-treating, apple bobbing, face painting, cotton candy and prizes.

DECATUR SWIRL – Decatur Swirl is 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, in historic downtown Decatur. There will be wine, food, music and shopping. Tickets are $30 and are available online at www.decaturswirl.com or at iCopy.

BUCKLE SHOW – Decatur FFA Buckle Show is Saturday, Nov. 2, at Wise County Sheriff’s Posse Grounds in Decatur. The show starts at 9:30 a.m., but entry cards with weigh-in are due by 8:30. Steers, heifers, sheep, goats and hogs will be shown. Entry fee is $25 per animal, $5 for showmanship. Custom buckles will be awarded to the grand champion in each species, and embroidered duffle bags will be awarded to the reserve grand champions. All paid entries receive a free meal ticket. SMOKED MEAT – Grace Baptist Church in Decatur is smoking turkeys, hams and briskets Friday, Nov. 15, to benefit the church benevolence fund. Cost is turkeys, $35; hams, $40; and briskets, $45. Call 940-627-7558 to place an order. Hams and turkeys can be picked up after 7 p.m. on the 15th.

PARADISE

WISE COUNTY

FRIEND TO FRIEND – Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Wise County and the Friend to Friend Coalition are hosting Friend to Friend: Staying Healthy Together at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, at the Bridgeport Community Center, 1102 Lawdwin Ave. Attendees will learn the importance of mammograms and pap tests and will find out how to access financial resources and fully-funded services in this area. SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS – Applications for the South Wise Spirit of Christmas will be available Friday, Nov. 1, at Rhome City Hall, 105 W. 1st St., and are due Wednesday, Nov. 13. The program provides toys and some necessities to children in need in Rhome, Aurora, New Fairview and others in the 76078 ZIP code.

JOB FAIR – Workforce Solutions will host a job fair 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 701 W. Hale, in Decatur. Employers that are to attend are the city of Decatur, Bridgeport PPT and Bridgeport Correctional Center, Emission Monitoring Services Inc., Wellhead Water Solutions, Pronto Staffing, DATCU, Entegris, Southwest Healthcare Ventures – Cambio Life Recovery and the Department of Aging and Disability Services.

DRIVERS NEEDED – Metroport Meals On Wheels in Roanoke needs drivers. The organization serves southwest Wise County including Aurora, Newark, Boyd and Rhome. Meals are picked up from Tater Junction and delivered during the lunch hour Monday through Friday. Drivers may volunteer one day a week or just a few days per month. SHOT CLINIC – The November immunization clinic at First United Methodist Church in Decatur has been cancelled. The next clinic is 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, at the church. For more information, call 940-665-6397.

NORTHWEST ISD

FALL CARNIVAL – The Prairie View Elementary Fall Carnival is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26. There will be food trucks, a silent auction, raffle prizes, face painting, duck pond, ring toss, lollipop tree, dino dig, photo booth, bounce houses, hay ride, angry hawks, petting zoo, jail booth, roping game and haunted house. CALENDAR FEEDBACK – Northwest ISD requests community feedback on the 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 school calendar options. Now through Oct. 31, go to www.nisdtx.org/calendaroptions to view the calendars, a list of frequently asked questions and to complete the survey. The NISD school board will vote on the final school academic calendars in December.

VOLUNTEERS SOUGHT – NISD Partners in Education is looking for community members to speak to students about the importance of higher education and present information on the Texas Scholars program one day during the week of November 4-8 at an NISD middle school. A PowerPoint will be provided for speakers. The Texas Scholars program focuses on education and career planning during middle school and high school and prepares students for the transition to life after high school regardless of the path they choose. COLLEGE/CAREER FAIR – NISD will host a college and career fair 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4, at Northwest High School (2301 Texan Drive in Justin). WISE COUNTY PLAY – Northwest ISD students and community members will perform “Far and Wide,” an original play produced by NISD, which tells the story of a young family who makes Wise County their home. Performances are 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Nov. 15 and 16, at Chisholm Trail Middle School (583 FM 3433 in Rhome). Salt Creek, a Southern bluegrass band, will perform prior at 6:15 p.m. The performance is free, but tickets are required as seating is limited. For more information, call 817-215-0159.

RENAMING CEREMONY – The Northwest ISD Board of Trustees, administrators and agricultural science department invite the community to celebrate the official renaming ceremony of the district’s agricultural science center 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17. The ag building is located at 1960 Texan Drive in Justin.

THANKSGIVING CLOSINGS – Northwest ISD offices and campuses will be closed Nov. 25-29 for Thanksgiving break. Classes resume Monday, Dec. 2.
