BRIDGEPORT

THANKSGIVING DINNER – The First United Methodist Church Thanksgiving dinner is 5 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, at the Bridgeport High School Commons. Tickets can be purchased at the church office. Cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children ages 5 to 10, if purchased in advance. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children, at the door. Kids age 4 and under eat free.

INFORMATION SESSION – The Bridgeport Public Library will host an informative and interactive session on the New Affordable Health Care Act 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9. FOUNDATION BANQUET – The Bridgeport Education Foundation annual banquet and auction fundraiser is 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, in the Bridgeport High School commons. TURKEY DINNER – Balsora Baptist Church annual community Thanksgiving dinner is Sunday, Nov. 10. White House Harmony will perform at 4 p.m., and dinner will be served afterward. The church is at 108 CR 3623, outside Bridgeport.

SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS – Applications for Bridgeport Spirit of Christmas were available beginning Nov. 4 at the public library. The deadline to return applications to the library is noon Wednesday, Nov. 13. Applications returned after the deadline will not be accepted.

CARDS IN THE PARK – Bridgeport Parks and Rec’s seventh annual Christmas Cards in the Park will be displayed Friday, Nov. 22, through Monday, Jan. 6, in Harwood Park. There is no fee, and it is open to everyone on a first-come, first-serve basis. Call 940-683-3480 for more information.

EAT WITH SANTA – Breakfast with Santa is 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Bridgeport Community Center. There will be photos with Santa and arts and crafts. Tickets are $3 for adults, $2 for kids at City Hall or at the door. For more information, call 940-683-3480.

RED KETTLE CAMPAIGN – The Bridgeport Salvation Army Unit is looking for bell-ringers for the Christmas 2013 Red Kettle campaign. One-hour slots are available 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Dec. 2, 6, 12, 18 and 21 at Wal-Mart; and 3 to 7 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays from Nov. 30 to Dec. 22, at Brookshire’s and Market Place. DECATUR

FUNDRAISER – Decatur Senior Center is having a benefit yard sale 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 9, at 1200 N. Miller St. Beans and cornbread will also be served for $4, which includes drink and dessert.

ELECTRONICS RECYCLING - Sycamore Baptist Church will host an electronics recycling event 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at the church, 133 CR 2425. Items that will be accepted for disposal and recycling include laptops, computers, cell phones, monitors, batteries, hard-drives, televisions, appliances, medical electronic equipment, printers, power supplies and game consoles. The event will feature hot dogs and a bounce house. SMOKED MEAT – Grace Baptist Church in Decatur is smoking turkeys, hams and briskets Friday, Nov. 15, to benefit the church benevolence fund. Cost is turkeys, $35; hams, $40; and briskets, $45. Call 940-627-7558 to place an order. Hams and turkeys can be picked up after 7 p.m. on the 15th.

RINGERS WANTED – Bell ringers are needed for the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle campaign at Wal-Mart in Decatur this holiday season. Ringers are needed daily from Thanksgiving to Christmas. To sign up as an individual or as a group, call Tana Fedric at 940-627-5859. All money collected by the Salvation Army at the Wal-Mart location stays in Wise County thanks to local volunteers.

PARADISE

ANNUAL DINNER – The fifth annual Paradise Chamber of Commerce dinner is 6:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2 at First Baptist Church of Paradise. Guest speaker is Dave Lieber, an investigative columnist at the Dallas Morning News. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. There will be a silent auction and raffle. WISE COUNTY

COLLEGE NIGHT – More than 40 colleges and universities will be represented at College Night 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, at Weatherford College Wise County. Students and parents from all Wise County high schools are invited to attend. There will be a financial aid presentation for parents of seniors at 6 p.m. in room 204. SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS – Applications for the South Wise Spirit of Christmas are available at Rhome City Hall, 105 W. 1st St., and are due Wednesday, Nov. 13. The program provides toys and some necessities to children in need in Rhome, Aurora, New Fairview and others in the 76078 ZIP code.

JOB FAIR – Workforce Solutions will host a job fair 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 701 W. Hale, in Decatur. Employers at the event include the city of Decatur, Bridgeport PPT and Bridgeport Correctional Center, Emission Monitoring Services Inc., Wellhead Water Solutions, Pronto Staffing, DATCU, Entegris, Southwest Healthcare Ventures – Cambio Life Recovery and the Department of Aging and Disability Services.

DRIVERS NEEDED – Metroport Meals On Wheels in Roanoke needs drivers. The organization serves southwest Wise County including Aurora, Newark, Boyd and Rhome. Meals are picked up from Tater Junction and delivered during the lunch hour Monday through Friday. Drivers may volunteer one day a week or just a few days per month. SHOT CLINIC – The November immunization clinic at First United Methodist Church in Decatur has been cancelled. The next clinic is 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, at the church. For more information, call 940-665-6397.

NORTHWEST ISD

WISE COUNTY PLAY – Northwest ISD students and community members will perform “Far and Wide,” an original play produced by NISD, which tells the story of a young family who makes Wise County their home. Performances are 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Nov. 15 and 16, at Chisholm Trail Middle School (583 FM 3433 in Rhome). Salt Creek, a Southern bluegrass band, will perform prior at 6:15 p.m. The performance is free, but tickets are required as seating is limited. For more information, call 817-215-0159.

RENAMING CEREMONY – The Northwest ISD Board of Trustees, administrators and agricultural science department invite the community to celebrate the official renaming ceremony of the district’s agricultural science center 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17. The ag building is located at 1960 Texan Drive in Justin.

THANKSGIVING CLOSINGS – Northwest ISD offices and campuses will be closed Nov. 25-29 for Thanksgiving break. Classes resume Monday, Dec. 2.
