CARDS IN THE PARK – Bridgeport Parks and Rec’s seventh annual Christmas Cards in the Park will be displayed Friday, Nov. 22, through Monday, Jan. 6, in Harwood Park. There is no fee, and it is open to everyone on a first-come, first-serve basis. Call 940-683-3480 for more information.

EAT WITH SANTA – Breakfast with Santa is 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Bridgeport Community Center. There will be photos with Santa and arts and crafts. Tickets are $3 for adults, $2 for kids at City Hall or at the door. For more information, call 940-683-3480.

CHRISTMAS PAGEANT – The Bridgeport Area Chamber of Commerce will host a Christmas pageant for boys and girls 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at Bridgeport Stage. General entry fee is $20, but there will also be optional categories for best eyes, best smile, best outfit and best personality. Optional categories are $5 each or $20 for all. Age categories are 0 to 23 months, 2 to 3 years, 4 to 6 years and 7 to 9 years. Winners in each age group will ride in the lighted parade. RED KETTLE CAMPAIGN – The Bridgeport Salvation Army Unit is looking for bell-ringers for the Christmas 2013 Red Kettle campaign. One-hour slots are available 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Dec. 2, 6, 12, 18 and 21 at Wal-Mart; and 3 to 7 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays from Nov. 30 to Dec. 22, at Brookshire’s and Market Place. THANKSGIVING DINNER – Decatur senior citizens will host a Thanksgiving dinner noon Thursday, Nov. 21, at their center, 1200 N. Miller. You may bring a dessert or side dish, but the meal is free. All senior citizens are welcome.

GOLF TOURNAMENT – DHS Golf Booster Club Tournament is Saturday, Nov. 23, at The Club at Runaway Bay. Registration begins at 10 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. Cost is $400 per four-person team and includes mulligans, lunch and door prizes. All proceeds benefit the DHS Golf teams. PARENTING SEMINAR – Parent Cafe is 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, at Decatur’s First United Methodist Church Wesley Center. The topic is positive discipline strategies.

RINGERS WANTED – Bell ringers are needed for the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle campaign at Wal-Mart in Decatur this holiday season. Ringers are needed daily from Thanksgiving to Christmas. To sign up as an individual or as a group, call Tana Fedric at 940-627-5859. All money collected by the Salvation Army at the Wal-Mart location stays in Wise County thanks to local volunteers.

ANNUAL DINNER – The fifth annual Paradise Chamber of Commerce dinner is 6:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, at First Baptist Church of Paradise. Guest speaker is Dave Lieber, an investigative columnist at the Dallas Morning News. Tickets are $20 in advance at Mann Refrigeration in Bridgeport, First State Bank in Paradise and Paradise City Hall. Cost is $25 at the door. There will be a silent auction and raffle. TOY DRIVE – Jorge’s Mexican Restaurant in Paradise is collecting gifts to donate to foster children in Wise and Jack counties. Bring a new and unwrapped toy to the restaurant now through Dec. 8.


HEALTH FORUM – The Wise County Health Forum will meet at 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, in the Decatur City Hall Council Chambers. The meeting is being held a week early due to the Thanksgiving holiday.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY – The Wise County Historical Society will have its monthly meeting noon Thursday, Nov. 21, at the Wise County Heritage Museum, 1602 S. Trinity St., in Decatur. Lunch will be served. RSVP to 940-627-5586.

JOINT MEETING – The annual joint historical society meeting is 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, in the G.C. Rann Little Theater at the Wise County Heritage Museum in Decatur. The program is “Wise County: From Beginning to the Present.” The event is sponsored by the Wise County, Bridgeport and Paradise historical societies, and refreshments will be served.

TOY RUN – The 14th Annual Wise County Toy Run is Sunday, Dec. 1. Registration is 10 a.m. to noon at the Decatur Intermediate School parking lot, and run begins at 12:30. The final destination is Harwood Park in Bridgeport. Riders should bring a new, unwrapped toy or a $10 donation to benefit Wise County children and charities. EXTENSION PROGRAM – Texas A&M Agrilife, Wise County is sponsoring a pesticide applicator license recertification program 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, at the Decatur Civic Center. Topics include brush management, back to basics land stewardship, laws and regulations, resistant weeds and lawn care fundamentals. Those who participate will earn five continuing education units – three general, one integrated pest management and one laws and regulations. Cost is $40, which includes lunch.
