Northwest ISD offers prekindergarten (PreK) classes for qualifying 4-year-olds. To adequately plan for the 2013-2014 school year, NISD would like to pre-qualify as many 4-year-olds as possible this spring. Pre-qualification packets are available at all NISD elementary schools and can be picked up now through March 25.

To qualify, a child must be 4 years old by Sept. 1, 2013, and meet one of the following requirements:

  • unable to speak and comprehend the English language;
  • economically disadvantaged;
  • child of an active duty member of the military;
  • foster child; and/or
  • homeless

“We will enroll 100 percent of kids who qualify for PreK,” said NISD Family Involvement Facilitator Deanne Colley. “All information will need to be verified in the summer.”

Completed packets can be turned in at any NISD elementary campus 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. any Thursday in March, except March 14.

Eligible families will make an appointment in August to verify their information.

For 2013-2014, PreK classes are planned at several NISD campuses including Prairie View Elementary in Rhome and Seven Hills Elementary in Newark.

“PreK classes could be expanded to additional campuses based on need and information we gather during the pre-qualification process in March,” Colley said.
