Richard LeRoy Harrington, 72, of Alvarado, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, at home. Graveside service was Feb. 12 at Bethel Cemetery in Decatur with Dr. Jimmy L. Horner officiating. Pallbearers are Jake Moody, Larry Moody, Johnny McDaniel, Michael McDaniel, Dustin Consatte, Glenn French, Jim Addington and Wesley Westbrook.
Richard was born March 29, 1940, in Anadarko, Okla., to Myrtle (Griggs) and Earl Harrington. He worked in the oilfields for many years. He also owned paint and body shops and auto repair shops and worked at Watson Truck and Supply in Hobbs, N.M. He worked at B&G Transportation until Dec. 21, 2012, where he really enjoyed working with Aaron Whitehead who was like a son to him. Many thanks to Mike and Molly Whitehead, who were great to work for. Richard enjoyed dirt car racing at Eunice, N.M., where he had many friends.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Barbara Ann Hudson Harrington; children Vicky Westbrook and husband, James, of Alvarado, Janice Willyard and husband, James, of Lovington, N.M, Donna Shoecraft and husband, David, of Sunrise Beach, Mo., Sherry Caldwell and husband, Glenn, of Chico, and Richard Harrington Jr. of Nixa, Mo.; 19 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; brothers John and Donald Pruitt, both of Hobbs; sisters Dorothy Williams, Carolyn Sudduth, Linda Pietz and Sandra Freeman, all of Hobbs; numerous nieces and nephews; and special persons Glenn French and wife, Michelle, of Fort Worth, and Jason Thompson and wife, Stacy,, and James Terry and wife, Janice, all of Hobbs.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Verdon Harrington, Bob Harrington, Jack Harrington and Freddy Pruitt; and sisters Mary Lee Martin and Sharon Schwartz.
The family wishes to thank Community Hospice of Texas in Cleburne and the doctors and nurses at Huguley Hospital in Fort Worth.
