Richard Allen Bower, 72, died Sunday, April 7, 2013, in Keller.

Funeral is 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, at the St. Peter Lutheran Church with the Rev. Larry Knobloch officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery.

Arrangements are being handled by White Family Funeral Home of Bowie.

Richard was born March 27, 1941, in Gladewater to Raymond and Vera Adelia (House) Bower. He served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, and he owned and operated Heavy Hoof Wagon and Carriage Co.

Richard married Joanne March 26, 1987, in Crowley and was well-known as the North Texas Santa Claus. He enjoyed caring for his draft horses and traveling.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Vera Adelia Bower and two sisters.

Richard is survived by his wife, Joanne Bower of Alvord; children, Sherry Smith and husband, Donald, of Terrell, Dovie Frasier of Irving, Bill Bower of Alvord, and Joe Bower of Dallas; stepchildren Deborah Rupp of West Lafayette, Ind., Robert Rupp of Chicago; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
