Rena Elizabeth Holloway, 95, formerly of Abilene, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, in a nursing facility in Decatur.
Funeral was Feb. 5 at First Baptist Church in Abilene, with Palmer McCown officiating. Burial was in Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home in Abilene. Serving as pallbearers were Rodney Holloway, Ryan Benter, J.L. Cole, Roy Jones II, Ken Brown and David Stovall.
Rena was born Feb. 11, 1917, in Cooper to Jesse O. Harris and Ollie Little Harris. She graduated from Iatan High School in 1934 in Mitchell County, and in 1936, she moved from Iatan to Abilene to attend Draughon’s Business College.
She married Ralph P. Holloway Jr. Aug. 20, 1938, in Abilene. Rena was a homemaker; worked for Royce Brooks Garage as a bookkeeper; was a dispatcher for D&W Furniture and Appliance and later for B&J Furniture Co. as a bookkeeper; and was an executive secretary for the Abilene Board of Realtors, retiring in about 1980. She was an active member of First Baptist Church; a member of Bible Study Fellowship and AARP; a volunteer with Hospice of Abilene since 1984; and a member of RSVP and LLL Club (at church) and Majestic Sounds (senior adult choir at church).
Rena along with her husband, Ralph, was named “Volunteer of the Year” in 1995 by Hospice of Abilene. In January 2010, she moved to Decatur to be near her son.
Rena was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph Holloway Jr. on June 28, 2002; brothers Loyce Harris, Olen Harris, L.L. “Mike” Harris and Paul Harris; and sisters Blanche Adams, Melba Curtis and Ann Harris.
Survivors include her son, Ralph P. Holloway III and wife, Jane Ann, of Decatur; grandchildren Rodney Philip Holloway and wife, Julie, of Potosi and Renee’ Holloway Garrett of Lewisville; and great-grandson Zachary Garrett.
