Laddy Frank Abel, 79, died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013, in Bridgeport.
Funeral was Dec. 27 at Trinity Baptist Church in Boyd with the Rev. Andrew Vandergriff officiating. Burial was in Boyd Cemetery under the direction of Christian-Hawkins Funeral Home in Boyd.
Pallbearers were James F. Cornstubble, Eddy Calicott, Anthony Holman, Lee Waldrop, Bailey Vandenbrande, Shane Abel, Joe Bob Unger and Jody Jack. Laddy was born Oct. 5, 1934, to Helen Miller Abel and Carl Rhine in Decatur. He graduated from Boyd High School in 1953 and proudly served in the Texas National Guard and as a lighthouse keeper in the United States Coast Guard.
He owned and operated Abel Automotive and Boyd NAPA for many years before going to work as a mechanic for Brazos Gas, where he retired.
Laddy was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Frank Abel; his father, Carl Rhine; son Alan Abel; and sister Rosalyn Norville.
He is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Adarose Abel of Boyd; daughters Brenda Calicott and husband, Eddy, of Boyd, Cheryl Cornstubble of Boyd, Annette Abel of Decatur and Lesa Cantrell of Boyd; daughter-in-law Sheri Abel of North Richland Hills; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; other family members and a host of friends.
