Jo Ellen Martin of Cheyenne, Wyo. died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013, at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center in Cheyenne. She was 73.
Funeral was Aug. 14 at Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home in Gordon, Neb., and burial was at Mount Hope Cemetery.
Jo Ellen was born Sept. 6, 1939, to Chester and Orel Garrett in Decatur.
She was a majorette at Boyd High School and graduated in 1958. She moved to Las Vegas, Nev., where she met Boyd Egli. They were married on Jan. 17, 1964, and divorced in the mid 1980s. She married Dale Martin of Mitchell, S.D., in the late 1980s, and they divorced several years later.
Jo Ellen was a medical transcriptionist who worked at Gordon Memorial Hospital, Chadron Community Hospital and Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell, S.D. After her retirement from Avera, she moved back to Gordon. Since November 2010 she had been living with her daughter and son-in-law in Cheyenne. Jo Ellen’s close friends and family knew her as “Jodie”.
She enjoyed knitting and loved to dance. She also liked anything with a butterfly motif and hummingbirds.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her sister, Henry Jeanne Wolfe (Charles) of Boyd; daughter Cori Hastings (Larry) of Cheyenne; daughter Glenna Smith (Lyle Sherfey) of Lisco, Neb., granddaughters Jessica Osterloo and Aevyn Smith; and grandson Eli Smith.
