Jimmy W. “Salty” Smith, 81, a retired employee of Bell Helicopter, died Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, in Decatur.
Funeral was Dec. 24 at Christian-Hawkins Funeral Home in Boyd with the Rev. Gary Sessions officiating. Burial followed at Pleasant Grove No. 2 Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Randy Smith, Kenny Smith, Jimmy Smith, Corey Smith, Joshua Smith and Jared Smith. Honorary pallbearers were Terry Solomon, Robert Demasses, Jeff Inman and Jeremy Smith.
Salty was born March 11, 1932, in Chico to Ernest and Virginia (Terrell) Smith. He was a graduate of Chico High School and retired after 28 years of service with Bell Helicopter as a tool and die maker.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shirley, who died in August of 1988; and his brother, Kenneth Smith.
Survivors include his sons, Randy Smith and wife, Gayla, of Fort Worth, Kenny Smith and wife, Laura, of Boyd and Jimmy Smith and wife, Julia, of Boyd; grandchildren Corey, Jeremy, Joshua, Jared and Sarah; three great-grandchildren; sister Frances Garrison of Oklahoma; brother Darwin Smith of Bridgeport; sister-in-law Nita Merle Smith of Chico; nieces and nephews; and other family members and friends.
