Jasper Breckenridge Smith Jr., 83, died Tuesday Jan. 29, 2013, in Lubbock.
Service was Jan. 31 in Hobbs, N.M., under the direction of Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.
J.B. was born March 19, 1929, in Oklahoma City to Jasper Breckenridge and Gertie Smith Sr. He moved to Hobbs in 1959 and worked for El Paso Natural Gas Co., then for Climax Chemical and Amerada-Hess. After retiring, he worked at Enterprise Rent-a-Car until his death. J.B. collected coins, knives and enjoyed going to bluegrass festivals with his wife. He was a member of the Fellowship of Believers.
J.B. was preceded in death by his parents, Jasper and Gertie Smith; grandson Troy Smith; granddaughter Andrea Lynnet Smith; and brother Chester Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Delores Smith of Hobbs; son Randy Smith and wife, Sherry, of Hobbs; daughters Martha Lynn Couch of Van Buren, Ark., and Delilah Lee of Pensacola, Fla.; brothers Herman Smith of Park Springs and Gerald Smith of Hobbs; grandchildren Cameron and Shawn Smith of Hobbs, Gary and Scott Jordan of Bowie, Jamie and Candy Couch and Jennifer Schultz, all of Van Buren, Rovanna Presley and husband, Jim, of Levelland, and David and Mark Pinson of Oklahoma; numerous great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
