J.B. Stokes

J.B. Stokes, 90, a member of the “Band of Brothers,” E Company, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013.

Service is 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, at White’s Azle Funeral Home with burial in Jaybird Cemetery. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at White’s in Azle.

J.B. was born Sept. 2, 1922, in Lenard to Ida Mae and George Stokes. He married Ola Mae Trotter Dec. 15, 1945. The couple began their life together in Bridgeport, where J.B. began his career in the Water Department. Through the years, they were blessed with four children, and J.B. became director of Public Works for the City of Azle.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Ola Mae Stokes; his parents; three brothers; and one sister.

He is survived by sons Gary Stokes and wife, Jani, and Jerry Stokes and wife, Ann; daughters Sue Hobbs, and Diane Obel and husband, Lee; seven grandchildren and spouses; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters Flora Capehart and Ray Nell Bolin.

The family wishes to express gratitude to Dr. Marshall Morrison, Sandy Herring and staff for their love and support.
