J.B. Barnes

J.B. Barnes, 79, a master plumber, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, in Decatur.

Funeral was Jan. 24 at Sunset Assembly of God Church with burial in Alvord Cemetery under the direction of Hawkins Funeral Home of Bridgeport. The Rev. Ernie Patterson officiated, and pallbearers were Wendell Berry, John Horton, Gary Bussell, Ray Patterson, Ronald Patterson and Ronald Gose.

J.B. was born April 28, 1933, in Alvord to John and Mary (Henderson) Barnes. He married Norma Jean Boyd Nov. 29, 1952, in Port Lavaca. J.B. served his country in the U.S. Army and was the owner of J.B. Barnes Plumbing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; great-grandchild Aisha; brothers Johnnie Barnes and Billy Barnes; sisters Bertha Barnes, Helen Barnes, Dorothy Barnes and Leona Milburger.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Norma Jean Barnes of Alvord; daughter Sheryl Zwahr and husband, Steve, of Alvord; son Avery Barnes of Alvord; grandchildren Shonda, Steven, Whitney, Layla and Hannah; great-grandchildren Ava, Dayssi, Cecyl, Ila, Emery, Lily and Adelyn; sister Francis Patterson of Alvord; other family members and a host of friends.
