Iva Maria Swift, 68, died Wednesday, July 3, 2013, in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Maria was born June 9, 1945, in Miami, Fla., to Leslie and Geraldine Green. She was an avid horsewoman and loved play days and equestrian drill team competition.
Maria was one of the founding members of the Wise County Wranglers riding club, parade and drill team captain for the Horseshoe Gold riding team and a member of the National Association of Riding Clubs and Sheriff’s Posses. The drill team members affectionately referred to her as “Sergeant Maria.” Throughout her life, her greatest loves where riding horses and working with animals.
Maria was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie and Geraldine Green; husband Larry R. Swift; and son Wayne Kinder.
Survivors include son Jimmy Kinder and wife, Theresa, of Springtown; daughters Renee and husband, MSgt. Phillip Hanback, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Tina Laughlin and husband, Mark, of Worland, Wyo.; stepsons Wade and Wayne Swift; sister Judy Rupert of Columbus, Ga.; and nieces Leslie Wilson and Trace Waldmanj.
She is also survived by grandchildren Amanda, Amber, Austin, Victoria and Elijah Kinder of Springtown, Madison Kinder of Azle, Broc and Bryan Laughlin of Wyoming, Kori Scherer of Colorado Springs and Daniel Scherer of Houston; and great-grandchildren David and Corbin Headley of Springtown.
Funeral arrangements are pending with White’s Funeral Home in Azle.
