Herald D. Gillespie, 87, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013, in Bridgeport.
Funeral is 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, at Christian-Hawkins Funeral Home in Boyd with the Rev. F.C. Lasater officiating. Burial will follow at Boyd Cemetery.
Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are Forest Cartwright, Trevor Gillespie, Bryan Gillespie, William Shelby, Tim Gaither, Jason Rogers, Gary Powell, Neil Powell, George Hatfield and Ray Gilbert.
Herald was born June 10, 1926, to William and Lydia (Ewing) Gillespie in Peacock. He married Tommie Swinney Jan. 27, 1948, in Decatur.
Herald was a farmer, owner of Gillespie Real Estate and a member of the Texas Board of Realtors. He was a staff sergeant in the United States Army during World War II and served under General Patton during the Battle of the Bulge. Harold was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Boyd.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Soretha Kay Gillespie; brother William Joseph Gillespie II; sisters Eveleen Brown, Estlene Gaither, Clarice Bimbo and Edna Prescott.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Tommie Gillespie of Boyd; sons Herald Wayne Gillespie and wife, Linda, of Boyd and Marshall David Gillespie and wife, Marietta, of Lehi, Utah; grandchildren William, Bryan, Forest, Trevor, Tori, Gary, Neil and Andy; 16 great-grandchildren; brother Joe Wayne Gillespie and wife, Sharon, of Springtown; other family members and many friends.
