Service for Eston O. Poland, 92, of Fort Worth, was Oct. 15 at Southwood Baptist Church in Fort Worth.
Mr. Poland, the father of Helen Taylor of Chico, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013.
Bro. Les Doyle officiated at the service, and burial was in DFW National Cemetery in Dallas under the direction of Jones Family Funeral Home of Bridgeport.
Eston was born Sept. 5, 1921, in Knoxville, Tenn., to William Columbus and Lillian Ethel (Talley) Poland. Upon completion of high school, he attended Draughon Business College. He also served his country in World War II as a master sergeant in the U.S. Army.
Eston was a Mason and also worked 20 years in commissioned sales for J.C. Penney.
After retirement, he could often be found at local establishments drinking coffee with his friends. One restaurant was referred to as the “Romeo Club” because the group of men who sat together, which included Eston, were senior widows or singles.
In his younger years, he played the violin. He liked music, enjoyed singing and was a member of Southwood Baptist Church in Fort Worth.
He is survived by sons Dee Poland of Amarillo, Fred Poland of Graham and Sid Poland of Arlington; daughter Helen Taylor of Chico; stepson Gary Standfield of Ames, Iowa; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Bob and J.B.; sister Mary; grandson Eston Denver; great-granddaughter Heather; and great-great-granddaughter Addison.
