Clifford Stanford

Clifford Stanford, 87, a retired machine operator, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, in Azle.

Funeral is 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, at Christian-Hawkins Funeral Home in Boyd with burial in Dido Cemetery. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Gerre Joiner will officiate. Pallbearers include Gary Lynn Stanford, Kirk Stanford, Kevin Stanford, Brandon Stevenson, Tim Schmerbach and James McPeek.

Clifford was born Feb. 8, 1925, in Sallisaw, Okla., to George and Bessie (Patterson) Stanford. He married Patsy Calhoun March 20, 1970, in Fort Worth. Clifford was a husband and father who loved his family and instilled good old-fashioned values. He loved to hunt, fish, be outdoors, listen to bluegrass and gospel music and enjoyed a good chicken fried steak.

Clifford was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Patsy; brothers Lloyd and Joe Stanford; and sisters Vonn Giddins and Nell Hillburn.

He is survived by his daughter, Wendy Schmerbach and husband, Tim, of Fort Worth; sons Kirk Stanford and wife, Margaret, of Saginaw and Gary Lynn Stanford and wife, Becky, of Fort Worth; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters Betty Sommers, Ruth Jones and Vera Alpin; brothers Roy Stanford and Harold Stanford; numerous nieces and nephews; other family members and a host of friends.
