Carl Ray Jones, 82, of Bridgeport, died Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, at home.
Funeral was Oct. 22 at the First United Methodist Church of Bridgeport with Brother David Rucker officiating. Burial followed at East Bridgeport Cemetery under the direction of Jones Family Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Eric Hartsell, Nathan Robinson, Josh Johnston, Bouie Stewart, Colin Jones and Grady Cowling. Honorary pallbearers were Royce Raven, Bob Gridley, Craig Barrett, Edgar Judd and Jerry Haddox.
Carl Ray was born July 27, 1931, in Bridgeport to Willie (Bill) Lavet (McEntire) and Ernest William Jones. He graduated Bridgeport High School and attended Decatur Baptist College, Texas A&M University and Texas Tech University.
He married Nevesta Grantham in Cheyenne, Wyo., in 1951. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1955 during the Korean Conflict and earned a National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
He was a technician for Natural Gas Pipeline Co. Carl Ray was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge No. 587, Scottish Rite and Shriners International. He was a 32nd Degree Mason. He enjoyed woodworking, farming and ranching, flying and collecting antique toys and airplanes.
Carl Ray is survived by his wife of 62 years; sons S. Mike Jones and Kevin R. Jones, both of Bridgeport; grandchildren Stephanie Hartsell of Bridgeport, Lesley Johnston of Norman, Okla., Hillary Robinson of Granbury, Emile Stewart of Denton, Colin Jones of Aledo and Bailey Jones of Lubbock; and great-grandchildren Pryor Robinson and Ande Stewart.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
