STABBING VICTIM RELEASED FROM HOSPITAL – Radley J. Unger, 24, has been released from John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth following an attack Saturday night in Bridgeport. Bridgeport Police Assistant Chief Steve Stanford said Unger tried to stop his roommate, Casey S. Mason, 32, from hitting Mason’s fiancée in the face with a closed fist. Mason began to assault Unger, Stanford said, and Unger sustained eight puncture wounds and one slash in the assault. He also suffered eye injuries when Mason allegedly used this thumbs in an attempt to gouge them out. As of late yesterday, Mason remained in Wise County jail on a $10,000 bond. He’s been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and assault to cause injury family violence. The female victim was treated and released from a local hospital for minor injuries. COMMERCIAL WATER, SEWER INCREASE – The Bridgeport City Council Tuesday approved $5 increases to the base rates for commercial water and sewer accounts. This would help cover the cost of operations of the water and sewer plants and distribution services.
CHILI COOKERS WANTED – Entries are being taken for the first Great Bowls of Fire Chili Cook-Off and Tasting on Oct. 6 at the Bridgeport Coal Miner’s Heritage Festival. Entry fee is $50 per team and due to the Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce by Sept. 28. All proceeds will benefit the Bridgeport Volunteer Fire Department. GENEALOGY WORKSHOP – The Decatur Public Library will offer a free six-week Genealogy Workshop beginning on Tuesday, Sept. 25 from 6-8 p.m. A local, expert genealogist will be teaching genealogy basics and how to use free online resources. MELODRAMA POSTPONED – The Wise County Historical Society has postponed its rendition of the melodrama “The Shagwood Secret” until Oct. 13, due to not being able to obtain two male actors. DRIVER APPRECIATION – 4-B Trucking Inc. is hosting a truck driver appreciation hamburger cookout today at the Chico terminal, 1.5 miles east of Texas 101 on Farm Road 1810. A free lunch will be served to CDL holders at the come-and-go event 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
PIONEER DAYS – Parade entrees and applicants for the Ugly Man Contest and the Little Miss Pioneer Pageant are needed for Rhome Pioneer Days, which is scheduled for Friday and Saturday. Other events include a barbecue cook-off, antique car and tractor show, live music, old-time blacksmith show, craft and food vendors, old west shoot out, cow-patty bingo, jail-a-friend and street dance.
