FIRE DEPARTMENTS GET GRANT – A federal grant totaling almost $900,000 will enable local fire departments to buy new radio equipment and be compatible with a new countywide radio system expected to be in place early next year. The $888,482 grant includes $710,785.60 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Assistance to Firefighters Program and $177,696.40 from Wise County, a cost-share portion of the grant. County commissioners approved at their meeting Tuesday an interlocal agreement with the Greenwood/Slidell Fire Department, whose chief applied for the grant, to allow for the distribution of the local funds. BOYD NAMES PRINCIPAL – The Boyd School Board Monday named Scott Nedrow as high school principal. Nedrow was hired as assistant principal in July. But a couple of months later, the board appointed BHS Principal Ted West as superintendent, leaving a void at the high school. Nedrow has previously worked as a special education coordinator at Fort Worth ISD and a teacher and coach at Northwest ISD.

BENEFIT ACCOUNT – A benefit account for Laura Davis has been established at DATCU in Decatur. Davis is uninsured and in need of a liver transplant.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY – The Wise County Historical Society meets noon tomorrow for lunch and a business meeting at the Wise County Heritage Museum.

DAR MEETING – The John B. Denton chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution has a work day 10 a.m. Saturday at the Wise County Heritage Museum in Decatur. Dutch treat lunch will follow at Casa Torres in Decatur.

BENEFIT GARAGE SALE – Decatur Nursing and Rehab is having a benefit garage sale 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at 605 W. Mulberry. Proceeds will be used to buy Christmas gifts for the residents.

TRAP SHOOT AND PLAY DAY – Wise County Cowboy Church is having a trap shoot and a play day Saturday at 2070 Old Denton Road, outside Decatur. The trap shoot begins at 8:30 a.m., and sign-up for the play day is at 2 p.m. Events start at 3. The church requests participants bring a canned food item for each event entered. SOCKS FOR SENIORS – Superior Auto Repair in Decatur is collecting Socks for Seniors. Donate new, adult socks, and they will be distributed to residents of area nursing homes. For more information, visit www.socksforseniors.com.

HOUSING AUTHORITY POLICY REVIEW – The Bridgeport Housing Authority annual and five-year plan policy changes and utility allowance are now available for a 45-day public review. A meeting to discuss the review will be 9 a.m. Jan. 2 at 1508 Cobb St.
