U.S. 81/287 between Rhome and Decatur remains closed after a one-vehicle rollover Wednesday.

According to witnesses, John Flanagan of Springtown, driving a drilling rig, was northbound in the outer lane of the highway when he attempted to change into the inner lane.

Witnesses say he swerved abruptly back into the right lane, losing control and rolling the truck. It came to a sliding stop on the driver’s side on the median, protruding onto the inside lane and shoulder and part of the outer lane.

The blockage led to the closure of the highway. As of 8 p.m traffic was being allowed through on the outer shoulder.

Flanagan was flown to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth for head and arm injuries.
