CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW? – Wise County commissioners approved purchasing a cell phone repeater system for Weatherford College Wise County at their regular meeting yesterday. “It’s an external antenna and repeats the signal inside,” Burns said, “and it’s for four carriers.” Currently, cell phones get no signal in the building, due in part to its external, 8-inch concrete walls. Cost is $150,000.

FIRE DANGER DAY – While a red flag warning has not been issued for today, Wise County is included in an area of elevated fire danger due to the forecast of hot, dry and breezy conditions. “Dispatchers are encouraging people not to burn on days like this,” Sheriff David Walker said Monday. Today’s high temperature is expected to be around 92 with a south wind of 15 to 25 miles per hour with gusts as high as 30.

VOTING PLACES LISTED – The Northwest ISD Board of Trustees Monday amended the order calling the Nov. 6 bond election to include polling places and times. Election day voting is 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the New Fairview Community Center (Precinct 6), Boyd Community Center (Precincts 23, 25 and 27) and Newark Fire Hall (Precinct 24). Early voting is 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, Oct. 22 to 26 and Oct. 29 to Nov. 2, at the Decatur Civic Center, Rhome City Hall and Bridgeport Law Enforcement Center. A temporary early voting location is 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at Wal-Mart in Decatur.

NEW PLAINSMEN – The Wise County Historical Society presents The New Plainsmen gospel-singing group 7 p.m. Saturday at Wise County Heritage Museum in Decatur. Advanced tickets, $10, are available at the museum. Tickets at the door will be $12. For information, call (940) 627-5586.

HOMECOMING PARADE – Chico homecoming parade is 1 p.m. Friday around the downtown square. The theme is Chico Goes Wild: A Homecoming Carnival, and floats are encouraged to be decorated with anything related to carnivals, circuses, animals, clowns, ringmasters and games. GRAND OPENING – The public is invited to a grand opening celebration tomorrow at Weatherford College Wise County, 502 Big Sandy Ct., Bridgeport. Festivities begin at 12:30 p.m., but guests may come early for lunch at the Coyote Cafe, beginning at 11:30.

DONATE SPORTS EQUIPMENT – Pass It On, a community service organization, is having a donation drive to collect used sports equipment and apparel 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the McCarroll Middle School football field parking lot, 1201 W. Thompson, in Decatur. Organizer Rhonda DuBois seeks equipment for all ages (K-12) and for all sports.
