WATERLINE PLANS – The Paradise City Council held a special meeting Monday to discuss waterline extensions to city residents currently not on the system. The council amended plans submitted by Dannenbaum Engineering Corp. of Fort Worth to remove any lines already in place and to “trim” the $1.2 million estimated cost of the project. The council also voted to split the project into three phases – north section, Old Town Road part and work along Texas 114.

CEMETERY MEETING – The Pella Cemetery meeting and lunch on the grounds is 1 p.m. Sunday. The cemetery is located off of Farm Road 1655, seven miles west of Alvord.
FIRE DEPARTMENT FUNDRAISER – The Cottondale Volunteer Fire Department is having a fundraiser Saturday. The event will include music by Rocking B 4 to 7 p.m., a barbecue dinner 5 to 7 p.m. and a live and silent auction 4 to 9 p.m. There will also be a bounce house and a jail. Raffle tickets for a gun are being sold for $5 each at Cottondale Store and Deli, Raymonds Barbecue in Bridgeport, Elliott Electric Supply in Bridgeport or at the fundraiser. FLU CLINIC – Slidell ISD will hold an influenza vaccination clinic 9-11 a.m. Wednesday for parents, students and community members. The clinic is free for all Slidell ISD students. BBQ COOKOFF – The Bridgeport Volunteer Fire Department will hold its first Barbecue Cookoff and Fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 20, at Northwest OHV Park. COLLEGE TO HOST HEALTH FAIR – Weatherford College Wise County will host its first Health Fair Wednesday, Oct. 17, from 8 a.m. to noon at the campus on U.S. 380 between Decatur and Bridgeport. Nursing students will check blood pressure, vision and glucose levels and determine Body Mass Index (BMI). There will also be hearing tests, flu shots for $10, and displays by various area hospitals, nursing homes, rehab facilities and other health-related agencies.
