IPADS APPROVED – The Bridgeport School Board last night approved spending up to $1.1 million to purchase iPads for each student in the elementary, intermediate and middle schools. The iPads will be purchased from fund balance. In other business, the board agreed to extend the contract of Superintendent Eddie Bland for another year after giving him a favorable review.

DRUG ARREST – A Rhome police officer arrested a man for drug possession after he found the man passed out behind the wheel of his vehicle late Saturday night on the U.S. 81/287 North access road. Officer Chance Garrett was investigating a suspicious vehicle when he discovered Edgar O. Hernandez, 34, of Fort Worth asleep at the wheel and what looked like a “crack pipe” next to him in between the front seats. A search of the vehicle turned up 33 grams of methamphetamine in a plastic baggie. Hernandez was charged with possession of a controlled substance between 4 and 200 grams, a second-degree felony. He was booked in Wise County Jail with bond set at $25,000. He made bail Monday. He told the investigator he was on his way from Fort Worth to Henrietta when he stopped in Rhome for a nap.

AUTHOR VISIT – The Decatur Public Library and the Decatur Library Foundation are holding a book signing and Q&A with author/journalist Julia Heaberlin 6-8 p.m. Thursday. HEART GALLERY – The Heart Gallery is now on display at First Financial Bank in Boyd and will be there for two weeks. Heart Galleries are a project of Court Appointed Special Advocates and feature a group of foster children awaiting adoption.
