ARRESTS MADE IN BOMB THREAT – Three female Decatur High School students were arrested yesterday afternoon in connection with a bomb threat at the school. Police Chief Rex Hoskins said two 15-year-olds and a 16-year-old were arrested and will be charged with terroristic threat, a felony offense. Because the suspects are juveniles, their names were not released. Hoskins said one girl brought a note with a bomb threat to school officials yesterday afternoon, claiming she had found the note in a bathroom. However, school officials reviewed video and determined that was not true. Through their investigation, they discovered the two other suspects. This came just hours after a bomb threat was found written in a stall in a boys restroom, resulting in an evacuation of the building. The Decatur police and fire departments responded and swept the building, finding nothing. Students were back in the classroom in about an hour. Due to the cold weather, students were taken to other facilities such as the ag building, fieldhouse and the nearby Carson Elementary gym. Hoskins said that these girls may not be responsible for that morning’s bomb threat or the one from last Tuesday, since those notes were both found in a boys bathroom. The investigation continues, and Hoskins said more arrests could take place. The school is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.
BURN BAN REMINDER – County commissioners yesterday renewed a 90-day red flag warning burn ban at their regular meeting.
