CHICO TRUSTEES APPOINT MEMBER – The Chico ISD trustees appointed Craig Moss to fill the unexpired term of Tim Raley, who resigned from the school board after taking a job in the San Angelo area. Moss had previously served several terms on the board. In other action, trustees approved a tax rate of $1.24533 with a $1.04 for maintenance and operations and 20.533 cents for debt service. The debt service rate decreases 3.33 cents. Trustees also approved a total budget of $9.023 million that includes $7.502 million for the general fund, $310,231 for the cafeteria and $1.211 million for debt service. The budget does have a deficit of $268,594 for the general fund.

EMERGENCY CENTER APPROVED – Northwest ISD trustees Monday agreed to move forward in implementing a district emergency operations center/incident command center. The $171,144 will be funded out of reserves. That budget amendment is to be presented at the next board meeting Monday, Sept. 11.

BUDGET WORKSHOP – The Paradise City Council meets in a budget workshop 6 p.m. today at city hall.

MORE BACK TO SCHOOL – Today is the first day of class at Alvord, Northwest and Paradise. Paradise Elementary parents are invited to a breakfast at 8:15 a.m. in the library to visit and receive information on volunteer programs, PTO and parent resource center and parent involvement programs along with after-school pickup procedures and locations.

COURT CANCELED – Jurors do not need to show up for the jury trial scheduled for 1 p.m. today at Bridgeport Municipal Court. It has been canceled.

BENEFIT ACCOUNT – A benefit account for Kerry Bouchillon has been set up at Wells Fargo. The 41-year-old Decatur resident has been battling leukemia for almost three years.

PROJECT GRADUATION MEETING – The Chico Class of 2013 Project Graduation Meeting is 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the high school library. Senior students and parents should attend. Call Kelly Durham at (940) 644-5783, ext. 4302 for more information.

BOYD SOCCER – The Boyd Youth Association will hold soccer sign ups for Fall 7-9 tonight and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at the middle school gym.

DECATUR SCHOOL BOARD – The Decatur School Board was to meet at 7:30 a.m. today. The agenda included a public hearing on the budget and tax rate followed by adoption of the items. The meeting is at the DISD Administration Building, 501 E. Collins.

FUNERALS – Memorial service for Elizabeth Ann Largent, 80, formerly of Wise County will be held at a later date. Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport is handling arrangements.

MEMORIAL service for Rayford Phillips, 77, of Bowie is 2 p.m. Saturday at Bowie Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness. Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur is handling arrangements.

FUNERAL for Trina Renee’ Kincaid, 42, formerly of Decatur is 2 p.m. Friday at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur with burial at Boyd Cemetery.

FUNERAL for Shirley Ann Hayes, 75, of Decatur is 10 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church of Decatur with burial at Oaklawn Cemetery. Family visitation is 7-8 p.m. Thursday at Coker-Hawkins.
