QUEENS CROWNED – The Wise County Youth Fair Queens were crowned at last night’s Queen’s Contest. 4-H Queen is Olivia Bettesworth representing Paradise 4-H. Runner-up is Bailey Ray Morris with Chico 4-H. FCCLA Queen is Hannah Tackett of Paradise FCCLA. Runner-up is Ariel Rogers of Alvord FCCLA. FFA Queen is Caira Heinze of Slidell FFA. Runner-up is Brooke Millican with Decatur FFA.
FAIR WINNERS - Kelby Meadows with Paradise 4-H showed the grand champion longhorn heifer yesterday. Cason Rangel of Alvord Jr. FFA showed the reserve champion.
YOUTH FAIR, DAY 2 – The Horse Show continues today. Other shows include the Breeding Boers and Breeding Dairy Goat shows at 7:30 a.m., the Breeding Swine Show at 1 p.m. and the Dairy Cattle Show at 6 p.m. The 4-H Parade of Fashion is at 6:30 p.m.
STORMS POSSIBLE – Thunderstorms are expected across much of North Texas, including Wise County, today and tonight. Severe thunderstorms are possible with large hail and damaging wind, according to the National Weather Service.
MARCH: WET AND WARM – For the second time in the first three months of 2012, monthly rainfall totals topped 6 inches. According to weather watcher Doyle Green in Decatur, we received 6.94 inches of rain in March – the fourth wettest March since 1974 and the wettest March in four years. High temperatures reached at least 80 degrees on four days with the highest temperature of 83 on March 1. The lowest temperature was 36 on March 4. For the year, Wise County has received 14.6 inches of rain, or 6.66 inches above normal for the first three months of the year.

PARASITE MANAGEMENT CLINIC – Texas AgriLife Extension, Wise County hosts a Sheep and Goat Parasite Management Clinic Tuesday, April 17, at the Women’s Building on the Sheriff’s Posse Grounds. SHERIFF’S OFFICE EGG HUNT – The Wise County Sheriff’s Office annual Easter egg hunt is 11 a.m. today at the Decatur Civic Center. The event is for kids 5 and younger. If it’s raining the event will be moved inside the civic center.
BRIDGEPORT COUNCIL – The Bridgeport City Council meets at 7 tonight in the council chambers at City Hall to consider approving an agreement with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department for the construction of a perimeter fence around the 300-acre OHV Park and to purchase an off-road vehicle for patrolling by the police department; and awarding bids for the removal and replacement of filter media and for operating, maintaining and managing the Walter Hales Water Treatment Plant.
PLANNING AND ZONING MATTERS – Two multi-family housing developments will come before the Decatur Planning and Zoning Commission tonight. The P&Z will be asked to make recommendations to the city council on the plat for Woodland Park, which covers almost 10 acres on Murvil Road, and to change the land use on 10 acres between Buchanan Road and Old Reunion Road from commercial to residential. The P&Z meets at 6 p.m. at city hall.
