JUNE WEATHER – For the third time in a row, rainfall amounts in Wise County were below the average for the month. According to weather watcher Doyle Green in Decatur, the city received 2.24 inches of rain in June, more than two inches below the normal of 4.27 inches. That brings the year-to-date total to 19.19 inches, which also now puts us below the average of 20.93 for the first six months of the year. Temperatures ranged from a high of 103 on June 26 to a low of 55 on June 1. Three 100 degree days were recorded.

GRASS FIRES – Fire departments around the county were busy responding to grass fires yesterday, with many being caused by people celebrating Independence Day with fireworks. However, no major damage was reported.

THEATER SHOW – The Decatur Public Library Summer Reading Club presents “Peter Rabbit and the Mysterious Magic Hat,” a live, interactive theater show, at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 10. The Summer Reading Club is a free program open to children of all ages. Call the library at (940) 393-0290 for more information.

ALZHEIMER’S SUPPORT – The Alzheimer’s Association Support Group meets at 7 tonight at Wise Regional Health System West Campus board room in Decatur. Caregivers and loved ones of anyone with Alzheimer’s or dementia is invited. For information, call Angie at (940) 627-6888.

MANAGING DIABETES – Persons 60 years and older with type 2 diabetes and/or their caregivers are invited to a free, one-hour program, “Managing Diabetes through Nutrition and Healthy Eating” at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 11, at the Decatur Senior Center, 1200 N. Miller. The program will focus on providing individuals with guidelines for good nutrition, how to utilize information provided on food labels for menu planning and a cooking demonstration. The program is being put on by the Texas AgriLife Extension-Wise County and the North Central Texas Area Agency on Aging. To reserve your spot, call the Extension Office at (940) 627-3341.

IMMUNIZATION CLINIC – Texas Department of State Health Services is having an immunization clinic Tuesday, July 10, at the First United Methodist Church in Decatur, 104 S. Miller. Times are 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. The cost is based on a sliding fee scale, and a parent must be present. Bring a shot record. Call (940) 665-6397 for information.

RHOME LIBRARY ACTIVITIES – The Summer Blitz Reading Program has begun for youth of all ages at the Rhome Library. Prizes will be awarded to top readers in each age division. Contest will end at the close of the summer. The library is also holding a poster contest for all ages. Posters will be displayed in the library and must be turned in by July 31 with name and phone number on the back. A book sale is also going on all summer. Library hours are 1-5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Saturday.

FUNERALS – Service for Melba F. Cate, 83, of Newark is 11 a.m. today at Lucas Funeral Home in Fort Worth. Family visitation is 10 a.m. prior to the service.

GRAVESIDE service for William “Bill” Frederick Lipstreu, 88, of Springtown is 10:30 a.m. Friday at Springtown Cemetery. Visitation is 6 to 8 tonight at White’s Funeral Home in Springtown.

MEMORIAL service for Raymond John Yoder, 83, of North Richland Hills, formerly of Boyd, is 10 a.m. Friday at Christian-Hawkins Funeral Home in Boyd.

Visitation for Jessie Lynn Lee Lattimore, 87, of Conroe, formerly of Paradise, is 5 to 7 tonight at Shannon Rose Hill Funeral Chapel in Fort Worth. Funeral is 1 p.m. tomorrow at the chapel with burial at Shannon Rose Hill Memorial Park.
