DRY SPELL CONTINUES — Last month was the driest November since 1999. According to weather watcher Doyle Green, Decatur received 0.13 of an inch of rain in November, the second lowest November total since local records began being kept in 1974. That brings the year-to-date rainfall amount to 27.39 inches, or 9.11 inches below normal for the year. Temperatures in the month ranged from a high of 87 on Nov. 2 to a low of 24 on Nov. 13.
NATIONAL FINALS RODEO — The National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas begins today, and Wise County is once again well represented. Brothers Clif and Tuf Cooper will return to the Thomas and Mack Center to compete in tie-down roping. K.C. Jones returns to the NFR after a three-year absence to compete in steer wrestling. And Trevor Brazile will try to extend his all-around world title record to 10. He begins the competition ranked first in team roping and all-around. The NFR will be broadcast on the Great American Country (GAC) channel.
BASKETBALL BENEFIT — The Samantha Rogers Memorial Basketball Tournament starts 9 a.m. today and continues through Saturday in Alvord. Girls will play in the high school gym and boys at the old middle school. Although registration is closed, organizers invite the community to attend. There will be T-shirts and concessions for sale. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for students. All proceeds benefit the Samantha Rogers Memorial Scholarship fund.
AIRPORT MANAGER TO RETIRE — Mike Sayers, who has managed Decatur Municipal Airport for the past 14-and-a-half years, will retire at the end of December. The public is invited to drop by the Decatur Civic Center on West U.S. 380 for a come-and-go reception honoring him from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 14. TACKY SWEATERS — The Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a Tacky Christmas Sweater contest 7 p.m. at the Bridgeport Stage, in conjunction with the Home for the Holidays event Saturday.
