SURVEYOR POSITION GONE JAN. 1 – After Davey Edwards was elected to the position of county surveyor on the same ballot in which voters approved doing away with it Nov. 6, Edwards had raised questions as to when the office would officially be abolished. On Tuesday, County Judge Bill McElhaney said the position would be abolished at midnight Dec. 31. “We feel like it was decided when the people voted,” McElhaney said. Edwards had also asked the Secretary of State’s Office if the office of county surveyor could be reinstated in the future. The reply was, “… there does not appear to be any constitution or statutory authority to ‘revive’ the office once it has been abolished.” Read more in the midweek Wise County Messenger on news stands now.
