CHICO MEETS AYP, OTHERS FALL SHORT – A majority of Wise County schools followed a state trend and failed to meet the Adequate Yearly Progress standards according to results released Wednesday by the Texas Education Agency. Chico ISD was the only district in the county and one of 28 percent statewide to meet the 2012 AYP requirements – 87 percent or more students passing reading tests, 83 percent passing math, 95 percent participating in state testing program, and 75 percent graduating or 90 percent attendance rate. All three Chico campuses met the standards. Statewide 44 percent of campuses met the federal requirements. Other local campuses meeting AYP were: Alvord High School, Bridgeport Elementary, Prairie View Elementary, Paradise Intermediate and Paradise Elementary. Boyd, Bridgeport, Decatur and Paradise all made the preliminary School Improvement Status list for missing AYP for the same reason for two or more years. Boyd reached stage 3 for reading. Bridgeport, Decatur and Paradise are at stage 1 for math. Districts under stage 1 must develop an improvement plan. After stage 1, schools must offer tutoring. Bridgeport Middle School reached stage 2 for reading.
