Storms pounded through Wise County Sunday around 5:30 p.m., leaving behind a widespread trail of damage. Fortunately, no one was injured.

In Runaway Bay, winds in excess of 65 miles per hour blew off the roof of a six-unit condominium on Runaway Bay Drive. The damaged units were deemed uninhabitable, and the Red Cross was dispatched to help the four families displaced.

Down the road, the roof of the Harbor Inn was blown off into an adjacent parking lot. The damaged units were uninhabited.

Bridgeport firefighters reported roof damage to buildings along Halsell Street including The Hope Chest and Select Screenings.

Scanner reports indicated five businesses and one residence along Farm Road 718 in Newark were also damaged.

Cloud to ground lightening sparked several grass fires across the county including a three-acre blaze on County Road 3547 in Cottondale. Decatur and East Wise firefighters extinguished a one-acre fire on Long Branch Drive in the Heritage Creek Subdivision off of Farm Road 2264.

Downed power lines and fallen tree limbs were reported throughout as well.
