MAN INJURED IN FALL FROM TRUCK – A man was seriously injured when he fell from the back of a pickup at 12:30 a.m. Sunday on Mathers Road, five miles north of Alvord off of Farm Road 1655. Wise County Sheriff’s Deputy Mason Torres said Trevor Hartfield, 20, of Denton was riding with Jeremy Shelby, 20, when Hartfield climbed from the driver’s side back window into the bed of the pickup while the vehicle was in motion. Hartfield was attempting to climb from the bed, back into the pickup through the same window, when he fell to the pavement. Meghan Elliot, 18, was following Shelby and witnessed the accident. Hartfield was flown to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth. The 2010 Alvord High School graduate is in ICU.
SCHOLARSHIP MONEY RAISED – The Weatherford College Red Carpet Gala benefiting Wise County student scholarships raised $86,620 Saturday night. The 230 people in attendance toured the new campus and heard moving testimonials by current student Emma Armitage and former student Bill Brimmer. Top donors were recognized, and the crowd was entertained by The Texas Connection, a jazz band. “It’s been said we can build a beautiful building, but unless we do our job inside, it doesn’t matter. You are doing the job tonight. Thank you,” said Dean Duane Durrett, addressing the donors.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY – The Wise County Historical Society meets noon Thursday at the Wise County Heritage Museum in Decatur. Members are encouraged to bring their own sack lunch and drink. Matt Joiner from Weatherford College Wise County will speak.
