FATAL WRECK IN ALVORD – At least one person was killed in a single-car wreck just before 6 this morning in Alvord. A car was southbound on U.S. 81/287 when it ran into a guard rail just north of the Hubbard Street exit. More information will be posted as it is available at WCMessenger.com.
BRIDGEPORT STABBING – A 24-year old man was stabbed multiple times following an incident at a house in the 1300 block of Court Circle in Bridgeport Saturday night, according to police radio reports. The victim was taken by helicopter ambulance to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth. A female in the house was also injured in the disturbance, and she was taken to North Texas Community Hospital in Bridgeport. Three Wise County EMS ambulances along with Bridgeport police and fire departments responded to the scene. Initial reports from the scene said he was stabbed in the stomach and back and suffered an eye injury. No details were given on the woman’s injury. PIONEER DAYS – Parade entrees and applicants for the Ugly Man Contest and the Little Miss Pioneer Pageant are needed for Rhome Pioneer Days, which is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, Sept. 21 and 22. MAMMOGRAPHY SCREENING – The Moncrief Cancer Institute is funding a mammography screening Saturday at Weatherford College Wise County. Participants must be preregistered and can do so by calling 1-800-405-7739. These grant-funded mammograms are available to women without insurance who meet eligibility guidelines.
BENEFIT ACCOUNT – A benefit account for Joseph “Joey” Hake has been set up at First State Bank. Hake was in a car accident Tuesday night and was flown to Parkland Hospital with burns to his abdomen. Donations will go toward his medical expenses and may be made at locations in Runaway Bay, Bridgeport, Paradise and Chico.
DEMOCRATIC MEETING – The Wise County Democrats meet at 7 tonight at the Wise County Courthouse, second floor courtroom. Guest speakers will be Gwen York, Transport Workers Union, and Dave Robinson, candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives District 12.
FOOTBALL RESULTS – In Friday night football action, Krum defeated Alvord 59-14, Godley beat Boyd 27-14, Bridgeport doubled up Iowa Park 42-21, Decatur cruised to a 56-13 victory over Burkburnett and Northwest fell to Midlothian 21-9.
