DECATUR CITIZEN HONORS – The late Roy Young was named Decatur’s Citizen of the Year Saturday night at the annual Chamber of Commerce banquet and auction at the Decatur Civic Center. Young, who died in September, was honored for his work to bring the Professional Bull Riding Event to Wise County and as president of the Wise County Youth Fair Champions and Blue Ribbon Club. The posthumous award was accepted by his three sisters on behalf of his family.

EARLY VOTING BEGINS – Early voting for the Nov. 6 general election begins today and runs through Friday, Nov. 2. Wise County voters can cast their ballots 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at any one of these three early voting locations: Decatur Civic Center, 2010 W. U.S. 380; the Bridgeport Law Enforcement Center, 1000 Thompson St.; and Rhome City Hall, 105 1st St. These locations will have extended hours of 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesdays, Oct. 23 and 30, and the Decatur Wal-Mart will also host a day of early voting, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27.

DECATUR STREET WORK – The City of Decatur is scheduled to perform street surfacing operations today through Wednesday. Make sure that all vehicles are off of the street so that construction can proceed as quickly as possible. Call (940) 393-0260 for information. Selected streets include South Miller, South Church, East Ash, East Elm, East Oak, South Sendero and South Workman.

NORTHWEST SCHOOL BOARD – Northwest ISD Trustees meet 7 tonight in the administration building (2001 Texan Drive in Fort Worth) for their regular meeting. They will discuss campus improvement plans, interlocal agreements for student-resource officers, revisions to the standards of professional practice for trustees and nominating a candidate for the Texas Association of School Boards Board of Directors, Region 11. They will hear reports on legislative policy, monthly construction and financials.

TRUNK OR TREAT – First United Methodist Church Decatur will host a Trunk or Treat 6 p.m. Saturday.

AUTUMN TEA – St. John’s Catholic Church Parish Life Ministries will host an Autumn Tea 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday at the church (1801 Irvin St. in Bridgeport). RSVP to (940) 683-2059 or (940) 389-1194.

COSTUME PARADE – Suit Up and Say Boo costume parade and trick-or-treating is Wednesday, Oct. 31, down Halsell Street. Participants will meet at the Duckwall’s parking lot at 5 p.m. For more information, call (940) 683-3400.

VALIDATION – State sheep and goat validation is 2-6 p.m. Tuesday at the Wise County Sheriff’s Posse Grounds. County steer validation for the 2013 Wise County Youth Fair is also scheduled at the same time and location. Call the Extension office at (940) 627-3341 for more information.

BOOK FAIR – A book fair will be held at the Paradise Intermediate School Library 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. today through Thursday and 7:30 a.m.-noon Friday. All-Star Family Night is 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

PARADISE CHAMBER – The Paradise Chamber of Commerce will have their board meeting at the Bridgeport Country Club at noon Thursday.

FUNERALS – Service for Allan Lane Delozier, 65, formerly of Decatur is 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur with burial at Oaklawn Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

FUNERAL for Mary Chrismon, 89, of Decatur in 2 p.m. Tuesday at Coker-Hawkins with burial at Oaklawn Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

SERVICE for Laura Bernice Burress, 89, formerly of Decatur is pending at Coker-Hawkins.

GRAVESIDE service for Virginia R. Walker, 87, of Rhome is 2 p.m. today at Aurora Cemetery. She was the sister of Pete Reeves.
