RAINY WEEKEND – Wise County received some much-needed rain this weekend. Rainfall totals included 2.5 inches in Greenwood, 2.1 in Rhome and Bridgeport, 1.8 in Runaway Bay, 1.4 in Chico, 1.23 in Decatur and 0.98 in Alvord. There is a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms tonight.

FRIDAY NIGHT SCORES – It was a soggy Friday night for many area football teams, but four of the six local teams came away with victories. Here are the results: Gunter 41, Alvord 0; Boyd 22, Bowie 16; Princeton 40, Bridgeport 21; Chico 71, Dallas Academy 13; Decatur 28, Iowa Park 21; and Northwest 35, Keller 7. BALLOON RELEASE – Wise Hope Shelter and Crisis Center will kick off Domestic Violence Awareness Month with a purple balloon release at noon today at the corner of Walnut and Trinity at the courthouse.

REGISTER TO VOTE – The deadline to register to vote and/or update your voter registration information to your current address is Oct. 9 for the Nov. 6 General Election. The current voter certificate is white and yellow. Applications or updates must be in the voter registration office, or postmarked by Oct. 9. Voters can check their voter status at www.co.wise.tx.us/registeredvoters/ or they can call the voter registration office at (940) 626-4453. HABITAT ORIENTATION – Trinity Habitat for Humanity will have homeowner orientations at 10 a.m. Saturdays, Oct. 6 and Nov. 3, at First United Methodist Church in Bridgeport, 608 17th St. Those interested in building and owning a home through the organization are invited. HERITAGE FESTIVAL – The Bridgeport Coal Miner’s Heritage Festival is 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday on Halsell Street. Events include a chili cookoff, live entertainment, cooking competition, motorcycle show, poker run, 5K walk/run, children’s activities, hot dog eating contest, pageant, photography contest, pet costume parade, historical demonstrations and vendor booths. PARADISE CHAMBER – Paradise Chamber of Commerce is having a social 11:30 a.m. today at Paradise City Hall. All members are asked to attend. A luncheon will follow at noon.

NEW HOURS – Chico Public Library is extending its hours. Starting today the library will be open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

MANGA ART CONTEST – The Decatur Public Library is holding a Manga Art Contest, with entries being accepted through Oct. 12. Artists must be 13 or older; categories are original and fan art; and no entries containing nudity or excessive violence will be accepted. All entries must include the artist’s name, phone number and category. A grand prize winner will be announced at the monthly Otaku Club meeting on Oct. 16, at 4 p.m. Call the library at (940) 393-0290 for more information.

EAT PIZZA – Today is Wise County Special Needs Baseball – Miracle League of Wise County night at CiCi’s in Decatur, 6 p.m. to closing. Drop your receipt in the box at the cash register, and 10 percent of those sales will be given to WCSNB. If you eat lunch at CiCi’s, request your receipt be included. WCSNB is raising funds to build a baseball field that will accommodate all special needs players regardless of disability.

CLASS REUNION – The 30th reunion for Decatur High School Class of ’82 is 7 to 11 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, at Reunion on the Square in Decatur. The class is hosting a multi-class reunion 7 p.m. to midnight Saturday, Oct. 6, at the Decatur Civic Center for classes ’79-’85. Cost is $30 per person, payable at the door, and it includes dinner.
