RIDER INJURED – A Lake Dallas man was flown by Life Team 68 to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth early Sunday morning after a motorcycle accident on U.S. 380 in Decatur. Emergency personnel was dispatched to the intersection of U.S. 380 and U.S. 81/287 at 3:45 a.m. The rider, Shawn Day, 60, was attempting to exit U.S. 380 to go north on U.S. 81/287 when his bike skid into a guardrail. Decatur Police Officer Zach Berrier said it appeared that Day tried to lay the bike down to avoid the guardrail but flew over it. Day was taken by ambulance to the Wise Regional Health System helipad to meet the helicopter. Berrier said the man suffered unknown injuries.

NO JURY DUTY — Bridgeport Municipal Court jurors do not need to report to duty tomorrow. The trial has been reset.

WCAN PRESENTATION – An informational presentation about the new Wise County Assistance Network is 2 p.m. Thursday in the Wesley Center of the First United Methodist Church of Decatur. The Wise County Assistance Network (WCAN) is a real-time Internet communication network coalition to connect emergency assistance providers, care providers, charities and churches in Wise County. Anyone involved with this type of organization in Wise County is invited. WCAN is administered by the United Way of Wise County. COUNCIL APPOINTEE – Decatur City Council will consider an appointment to fill the council vacancy of Martin Woodruff tonight. Woodruff’s seat became vacant when he was elected mayor in May. The appointment will be until the May 2013 election and will represent the southeast district. The council meets at 6 p.m. at city hall following a 5:30 p.m. workshop.

RHOME LIBRARY ACTIVITIES – The Summer Blitz Reading Program has begun for youth of all ages at the Rhome Library. Prizes will be awarded to top readers in each age division. Contest will end at the close of the summer. The library is also holding a poster contest for all ages. Posters will be displayed in the library and must be turned in by July 31 with name and phone number on the back. A book sale is also going on all summer. Library hours are 1-5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Saturday.

CHAMBER LUNCHEON – The Decatur Chamber of Commerce Luncheon is 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Decatur Civic Center. Eve Mayer Orsburn will speak on “Social Media 2.0.” RSVP today to the chamber office at (940) 627-3107.

CASEBEARERS IN WISE – The second generation pecan nut casebearer moth has been trapped in Wise County recently. Because of the drought, pecan experts expect that the second generation casebearer could be the most damaging for the 2012 pecan crop. The estimated time frame for spraying for the second generation casebearer should be around June 26.

TRANSFER APPLICATIONS – Boyd ISD is currently accepting applications for Inter-District Transfer students for the 2012-13 school year. Applications are available at the BISD administrative offices and online at www.boydisd.net. The deadline to submit applications is Aug. 1.

GOSPEL OPRY – A Gospel Opry will be held at 7 tonight at the Wise County Heritage Museum in Decatur. Donations that will benefit the museum will be accepted at the free event.

WILL WE HIT 100? – We have a chance today to hit the century mark with a high temperature for the first time this summer. The forecast calls for a high of 100.

FUNERALS – Memorial service for Steven Keener, 53, of Boyd will be held at a later date. Christian-Hawkins Funeral Home in Boyd is handling arrangements.

FUNERAL for Winfred Wayne “Wimp” Betty, 80, of Decatur is 10 a.m. today at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Chapel in Decatur with burial at Oaklawn Cemetery.
