FATAL WRECK – A Rhome man was killed in a one-vehicle accident just north of Rhome about 4:30 a.m. Sunday. Jeremy Evans, 26, was driving north on County Road 4733 in a Toyota Solara when he missed a sharp turn, striking a tree. “He basically drove straight through the curve,” said DPS Trooper Adolpho Patterson. “He was likely intoxicated.” He noted the vehicle smelled strongly of alcohol, and there were four “alcohol containers” in the car. Evans had no passengers. Service for Evans is pending at Christian-Hawkins Funeral Home in Boyd.

WRECK INJURES 1 – A man was seriously injured Saturday afternoon when he rolled his trike on Farm Road 718, south of Newark. The rider was driving southbound when his custom trike overturned near Maxwell Road. Firefighter Brett Davis with the Newark Volunteer Fire Department said the man was “face down and breathing” when they arrived. He was not wearing a helmet. The man was transported by Eagle Mountain Emergency Medical Services to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, according to Davis. Sgt. Sorrells, with the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office, would not release any information at the scene, and Tarrant County Public Information Officer Terry Grisham said the name would be available today. Although the accident occurred in Tarrant County, it was within the Newark Fire Department’s district.

COLLECT TOYS – Any organizations, church groups or businesses interested in collecting Toys For Tots may pick up a collection box from CiCi’s Pizza in Decatur. U.S. Marine Corps representatives will pick up the donations from the restaurant 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15. For more information, call Keith at (940) 393-2088.

SANTA FLY IN – Santa will fly to The Community Bank in Bridgeport by helicopter 5 p.m. Wednesday to pose for photos with kids.

BOOK FAIR – Decatur’s McCarroll Middle School is hosting a book fair today through Friday in the library. There will be a coffee bean guessing contest, and winners will be given gift certificates to the fair.

GRIEF SUPPORT – The Grief Support Group meets 6 tonight at the Wise Regional Health System West Campus (old hospital, enter at the far left side of the building). For information call Laura Tanner at (940) 626-2973.

CHAMBER DINNER – The Paradise Chamber of Commerce will have its annual Christmas dinner 7 tonight at the First Baptist Church in Paradise. WARM START TO DECEMBER – Record highs were set in North Texas over the weekend, and it is expected to be warm again today. The high in Decatur is forecast to be 79 with a low tonight around 51. A cool front that should arrive later today will bring a little bit lower temperatures for tomorrow with a high expected to be around 70 with a low around 40.

FUNERALS – Service for Matthew Matney, 23, of Chico is pending at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport.

MASS of Christian burial for John Cortez, 78, of Bridgeport is 10 a.m. today at St. John’s Catholic church with burial at East Bridgeport Cemetery. Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport is handling arrangements.
