BACK TO SCHOOL – Many students around Wise County will be headed back to the classroom today for the first day of school. Schools beginning class today include Decatur, Chico and Slidell. Tomorrow is the first day of class for Alvord, Northwest and Paradise. Boyd and Bridgeport begin class Wednesday. Be sure to watch for students walking to and from school, and remember that most school zones now prohibit cell phone use.
COURT CANCELED — Jurors do not need to show up for the jury trial scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday at Bridgeport Municipal Court. It has been postponed.
GOSPEL OPRY – The monthly Gospel Opry sing along is 7 tonight at the Wise County Heritage Museum in the second floor G.C. Rann Theater in Decatur. Admission is free, and an offering will be taken to support the museum.
PARK SPRINGS HOMECOMING – The 58th Park Springs reunion is Sunday, Sept. 2, in the Fellowship Hall of Victory Baptist Church, Texas 101 in Park Springs. Registration, a potluck lunch and visiting is at noon, and official ceremonies begin at 2 p.m.
PARADISE MEET THE TEACHER – Paradise Elementary will hold its Meet the Teacher Night tonight. The event will be divided into two sessions with the first for students with last names beginning with letters A-M from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The second session for students N-Z will begin at 6:30 p.m. Students are encouraged to bring their school supplies. There will also be a drawing for students bringing Box Tops for Education.
PARADISE BTS BREAKFAST – Paradise Elementary parents are invited to a breakfast at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday in the library to visit and receive information on volunteer programs, PTO and parent resource center and parent involvement programs along with after-school pickup procedures and locations.

LEARN TO DRAW – The Decatur Public Library is offering a free eight-week Basic Drawing for Adults class on Wednesdays from 2-5 p.m., Sept. 5-Oct. 24. Instructor Sasha Dupuis will teach you how to draw using your “right brain.” This class is ideal for adults, 17 and older, who have always wanted to draw but never felt they had the talent or time to learn.
