Investigators believe a “head bleed” or “aneurysm” caused a truck driver to careen off of U.S. 287 and barrel through the Panda Express parking lot in Decatur Tuesday afternoon.
The driver, John Baxter, 48, of Oklahoma remains in serious condition at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth.
The results of “different tests run at the hospital” suggest there has been bleeding on the brain for “a couple of days.”
Witnesses say the truck ran off of U.S. 287, down the steep embankment, across the service road and split two trees before jackknifing and hitting a yellow Chevrolet Cobalt parked on the south side of the restaurant, causing a domino effect. The Cobalt hit a white Pontiac Sunfire parked next to it, which hit a Dodge pickup.
An occupant of the Cobalt, Dawn Caddell, 52, of Krum, was transported to Wise Regional Health System for a possible broken hip. The other cars were not occupied.
The restaurant closed at around 8:30 yesterday evening due to the smell of diesel spilled from the grain truck but resumed business as normal today.
