A Fort Worth man, formerly of Decatur, was stabbed in the leg this morning in Decatur while trying to collect on a debt. Robert Chavanna Jr., 36, was stabbed in his left thigh outside a residence at about 10 a.m. on Arthur Street. According to what Chavanna told investigators, he was attempting to collect money owed to him by an Acey Davis, 37, of Decatur. In lieu of cash money, Chavanna attempted to take an orange bicycle from Davis. At this point Davis allegedly stabbed Chavanna “while attempting to protect his property” said Decatur Police Sgt. Mike Picha. The case is still under investigation, but the suspect might face a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Medics and Decatur firefighters responded, but Chavanna refused treatment. He had a one-inch wide puncture wound, but the knife didn’t penetrate very deep.
