INCREASED WATER – The Paradise City Council Thursday approved increased water rates as follows – basic fee (up to 1,000 gallons) from $34.06 to $36.11; from $6.52 to $6.91 per thousand gallon for additional usage between 1,001 and 5,000; from $6.74 to $7.15 per thousand gallon for additional 5,001 to 15,000 gallons; $7.15 to $7.55 for more than 15,000 gallons. The school water rate jumps from $6.34 to $6.72 per gallon and bulk water from $6.44 to $6.62 per gallon.

LAPTOP REPLACEMENTS APPROVED – Four years ago, elementary teachers at Decatur ISD received laptops, and now it’s time for replacements. The school board last night approved the replacement of 100 Macbook Airs as well as 37 iMac desktop computers at the sixth grade campus. The $163,143 estimated cost will be paid for by money from the technology part of the 2008 bond package.
GOOD FINANCIAL SHAPE – Decatur City Manager Brett Shannon told the Economic Development Corp. board yesterday that the corporation’s share of the sales tax revenue for the fiscal year ended at $1,289,357.81, above the budgeted $1,150,000. “You’re in good financial shape at this point in time,” Shannon said. The EDC board also gave approval for the Decatur Civic Center to move forward with plans to seek bids for new audio and visual equipment for the facility in an amount not to exceed $150,000.
PIONEER DAYS – Rhome Pioneer Days is today and Saturday. Events include a parade, the Ugly Man Contest, the Little Miss Pioneer Pageant, a barbecue cookoff, antique car and tractor show, live music, old-time blacksmith show, craft and food vendors, old west shoot out, cow-patty bingo, jail-a-friend and street dance. HOMECOMING PARADE – Chico homecoming parade is 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, around the downtown square. The theme is Chico Goes Wild: A Homecoming Carnival, and floats are encouraged to be decorated with anything related to carnivals, circuses, animals, clowns, ringmasters and games. COLLEGE RIBBON CUTTING – A grand opening and ribbon cutting event for Weatherford College Wise County is 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26. The public is invited to come early and eat lunch at Coyote Cafe and later tour the campus, which is near the intersection of U.S. 380 and Farm Road 1655 between Bridgeport and Decatur. The address is 502 Big Sandy Ct., Bridgeport.
CRAFT FAIR – Fairview Baptist Church will hold a craft fair 9 a.m.-5 p.m. today and Saturday. A quilt will also be raffled. For information, call Pam at (817) 789-1264.
RUE HONORED AS TOP SUPERINTENDENT – Northwest Superintendent Karen Rue accepted the Bayard H. Friedman Hero Award as the most outstanding superintendent in north Texas at the Score a Goal in the Classroom’s “The Best is Yet to Come” awards dinner Tuesday. The award was established in memory of Bayard Friedman, a civic leader with a passion for public education, to honor outstanding school employees. Rue was presented a $1,000 honorarium which she donated to the Northwest ISD Education Foundation (NEF).
CHICO PEP RALLY – The Chico Dragon and Lady Dragon Pep Rally is 1:15 p.m. in the CHS gym.
FUNERALS – Service for Jack Garrison Sr., 91, is 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Alvord with graveside service at 3 p.m. at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Fort Worth. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at White Family Funeral Home of Bowie.
MEMORIAL service for Jana Sue Windle, 55, of Newark is 2 p.m. Sunday at Rhome Assembly of God Church in Rhome. Christian-Hawkins Funeral Home in Boyd is handling arrangements.
